A message from our President:
Welcome to the 2011-2012 Skating Season! A special welcome to all of our new skating families,
as well as returning families. At present registration, we have over twenty skaters in CanSkate, six skaters in Senior CanSkate, and one STAR Skater.
Our club has been in existence for over 50 years!, offering the skaters of our community
the training
to enhance their skating skills. Skating is a life-long sport and we are fortunate
to have
NCCP Certified Coaches, Program Assistants and most importantly, parents
and families
willing to be a part of this club.
We offer CanSkate and Senior CanSkate lessons twice weekly (check out the Skate Canada
website for more detailed information on all skating programs). As well, the STAR skating program
is available to skaters who wish to pursue more advanced Figure Skating. The health benefits of
skating, as well as the excellent Sungro facility, provide your family with a fun, life-long sport.
We are still looking for some parents to help with the club this year. On executive, we need a Secretary and an Ice-Show Coordinator. We are planning to have an “Ice-Show” at the end of
our skating season in March, and we will need assistance in planning that. If we all pitch in
and help, the load of running a successful club is less for individual members.
Both of my daughters have progressed through the Canskate Program, and carried on with the STAR Skate program. They both love skating immensely, and it is a joy to watch them skate. It is exciting
to watch all of your children as well, as they take their first wobbly steps on those skates.
The progression
of skaters always amazes me every year. Many of you will stay with our
club only a short time, to improve
your child's skating skills. We would encourage you
to assist in any way you can with the Club activities.
Without volunteers, there would be
no club. Last year while watching CBC's “Battle of the Blades”, I was
heartened to
hear a hockey player (P.J. Stock) develop a respect and give kudos to all the kids
in arenas all over Canada, who are skating, jumping, falling and getting back up again,
over and over, without equipment.
This is why we work so hard to have a
Skating Club in this town—for the kids.
A special thanks to our coaches, Jaquelyn and Tegan, as well as all of our
Program Assistants.
I am excited to welcome back (on a limited basis) former club
skaters Kayla Rushinka and Sarah Ehinger,
to assist with the CanSkate program.
As well as Program Assistants: Lauren, Alex, Katie, Anna, Heather, Ashley and Madeleine.
If you know of any skaters willing to be Program Assistants,
please contact myself or Jaquelyn.
If you have any questions or are able/interested in helping out the club,
please contact me at
268-1162 or email: hkorlak@efree.mb.ca
Have a Great Skating Season!
